Working hard for what she truly wants is Amy’s motto to bring happiness and contentment in her life. Her active participation in volleyball, soccer and badminton school teams and as the President of the Student Council, as well as her extensive volunteer work has not hindered her excellence in academics as an honour student at Westview Centennial Secondary School. Amy achieved the highest standing in OAC and Grade 12 English. She is the recipient of the Canada Trust Horizons Scholarship for University and numerous awards for academic excellence in biology, chemistry, visual arts and social science. As her English teacher says, “Youth like Amy are a promise of the 21st century.”

Athletic Award
“Commitment, dedication, natural leadership, intelligence and a never-give-up-type attitude” is how Chris’ basketball coach describes the Senior Boys Athlete of the Year at Middlefield Collegiate. Although Chris has received awards for many sports, his passion is basketball. Voted Most Valuable Player at many basketball tournaments, Chris won the 2000 NBA/WNBA Sportsmanship Award and positions on All-Star basketball teams for York Region and the Chinese Youth in Toronto. He shares his love of sports by volunteering his time to the community through sporting events, like the basketball tournaments for the Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association.
Vinkie Lau

Toronto Mandarin Lions Club Arts Award
Vinkie graduated from Unionville High School with honours and a long list of distinguished scholarships and awards in recognition for her excellence as a highly motivated student and artist. Among her many achievements are winning the Royal Canadian Legions’ Ontario and National Remembrance Day Poster Contests, the Arts York Scholarship in Visual Art for outstanding work over four years, and most recently, the University of Toronto Studio Art Scholarship. Vinkie’s love of the arts extends into an active life in school and community life. She has also volunteered for three and a half years at the Frederick Varley Art Gallery, tutuored students and designed artwork for community events and organizations.
Judy Ng
Earl Haig Secondary School
TD Canada Trust Community Services Award
While maintaining an outstanding 94% OAC average in the gifted program at Earl Haig Secondary School and participating in her school community as Peer Tutor and Peer Helper, Judy feels her greatest sense of achievement is volunteering her time in the community. Her reward is getting hugs from children after reading to them in the McKee Reading Buddy Program, helping Harbourfront and bringing history to life at the Royal Ontario Museum. For two and a half years, she has volunteered over 270 hours at the St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital where its Volunteer Coordinator says, “Judy is dedicated, enthusiastic, co-operative and hardworking.”
